THE HISTORY OF THE SOCIETY ...
In October 1983 Denis Moore and Sean O’Connor discussed the possibility of forming a golfing society in Kilmallock. Tony O’ Dwyer, Golden Vale Bar and life-long golfer was contacted. He wished the proposed venture every success. Tony agreed to sponsor total costs of prizes for first outing.
A big campaign to recruit potential members followed. Having secured the overwhelming support of over 30 people it was decided to proceed with an outing. Denis Moore made all the arrangements and Mallow was selected as the venue. The date of that outing was 22/10/83. On that day 29 people played. It was a resounding success.
Subsequent to the outing a meeting was held in Mallow Club House. Those present were John Brazil, Mick Curran, Eamon Dowling, Michael Fogarty, Noel Hanly, Tommy Hanley, John Hannan, Willie Hayes, Noel Heffernan, Pat Kennington, Paddy Larkin, Robin Lee, Liam Lynch, Seamus Moloney, Denis Moore, Michael Murphy, Pat Nagle, Bill O’Brien, Sean O’Connor, Cal O’Donnell, Pat O’Donnell, Sean O’Donovan, Tony O’Dwyer, Dermot O’Rourke, John O’Rourke, Denis O’Sullivan and Joe O’Sullivan.
Denis Moore acted as chairman and Sean O’Connor as secretary. It was unanimously agreed to establish a golfing society. Robin Lee suggested that the winners on the day, together with the sponsor, should act as officers and committee for that golf year. This was agreed. |
